Gwyneth Paltrow accused of ‘skiing out of control’ in ‘hit and run’ trial

The Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah, has become the stage of a court case that has pitted Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow against Terry Sanderson, a 76-year-old retired optometrist. Sanderson claims that Paltrow caused a skiing accident in 2016 that left him with a brain injury, four broken ribs, and other serious injuries. Sanderson also alleges that Paltrow left the scene of the accident and that she was reckless and negligent while skiing.

The case began with the two parties making their opening statements, with Lawrence Buhler, Sanderson’s representative, accusing Paltrow of reckless skiing that caused his client’s injuries. Buhler also stated that Paltrow was “blindly” skiing down the mountain while looking somewhere else, which he described as reckless behavior. Stephen Owens, Paltrow’s attorney, argued that the accident was not caused by Paltrow’s negligence but was a result of Sanderson skiing recklessly and colliding with Paltrow.

The trial will continue for eight days and will involve testimony from both Paltrow and Sanderson. Paltrow’s lawyers have filed a counter-claim seeking legal fees and $1 in damages. They allege that Sanderson has overstated his injuries and is attempting to exploit Paltrow’s wealth and celebrity status. Paltrow’s lawyers have also accused Sanderson of attempting to blackmail Paltrow by demanding millions of dollars to keep quiet about the incident.

The incident has raised questions about the safety of skiing and the responsibility of skiers while on the slopes. Ski resorts have policies in place to ensure the safety of skiers, and the case will explore whether the Deer Valley Resort and its employees followed safety policies and provided complete information on incident reports.
